Super Sniffers Level 1 (Practical) - SPECTATOR PLACE

A 1 day workshop in Biggleswade, Central Bedfordshire taught by world expect detection and conservation dog handler and trainer,  Louise Wilson. Louise has worked all over the world training and working wildlife conservation and scent detection dogs, from the plains of Africa to the forests of Shropshire; from UK Border Force to some of the world's elite military units.   

Our Super Sniffers Level 1 practical workshop with Louise Wilson founder of Conservation K9 Consultancy, will take you on a journey over the last 15 years and more working with specialist search dogs, for worldwide government agencies, police Forces, and HMRC and wildlife organisations - the list is endless!
 
Louise will invite us into her world of being a search dog trainer and handler letting us in on the secrets, the highs and the lows. A fun and informative day!

Workshop content:


* Detection dogs and Conservation- what you need to know.
* Experience and operational search history. From explosive searches to Ivory searches. 
* What makes a good detection dog and why?
* Picking the right dog for the right scent - rescue dog to search dog! 
* Why use dogs for conservation? 
* Principles of scent training and canine olfaction 
* Conservation - because it makes Scents! 
* Ivory detection ,Scat Detection , Carcass Detection , Amphibian Detection, Wildlife monitoring, Invasive species detection discussion points and more
* Building confidence in a dog 
* Scent work basics - how to start! 
* Practical training - step by step approach for individual dogs needs 
* Scent pictures - how scent works 
* How to handle your dog- reading your dog’s behaviour and reading YOUR own behaviour. 
* Understanding stress in a working dog - what to consider! 
 


About Louise:

Specialist Dog Handler and Trainer for more than 15 years, she has worked for the leading largest detection dog company in the UK, as the Director and Head of training, now as an independent consultant offering her services World Wide under her company Conservation K9 Consultancy This is a Trading Name of LEV International LTD.
Louise is a Graduate from Chester University part of Liverpool University and is Qualified with a Diploma in Higher Education in Animal Behaviour and Welfare as well as a City and Guilds certificate.

Louise has gained experience working with the best dog trainers and handlers, whether it was Police, Military or Civilian. Developing her handling and training skills is a great passion and being able to help teach other what she has been lucky enough to learn about detection is Louise’s mission! Working in schools, universities and with education providers she gives an inspiring and innovate workshops, demonstration and presentation. She has been asked to speak at events in Johannesburg, Italy and Switzerland to name a few and is looking forward to working with even more organisations worldwide through collaboration.

Dog’s detection ability and Welfare is of great importance to Louise and she is always looking for the next exciting target odour as well as how the working dog world can help improve working dog welfare! She has a very personable, prescriptive and organic approach to her detection dog training and handling. Allowing a dog to be a dog and making sure the dogs wellbeing is at the forefront of all her sessions.

Bringing dog’s ability to the forefront of conservation in the UK and beyond is her goal and for the last 15 years plus she have been pushing for dogs to be more involved in conservation, mitigation and surveys within the UK.

Time:  Arrive from 9.30 for coffee and registration. Course runs from 10-4pm with a lunch break.  Please bring your own lunch. Snack and drinks will be provided.

Parking:  There is a car park on site. 

Dogs:  Dogs of handlers are allowed in the hall during searches.
